It would be nice if the height requirements for the rides were posted on the web site. All too often, my son is eager to go on a ride only to be denied entrance. For this reason, I currently stay away from these sort of fairs because it's easier (and cheaper) to not put him through this.

You should offer a pass that is good for the entire fair (ala season pass like Six Flags). You would get people to come back again and again and spend more on food and other things.

This will be my first time going to the State Fair
I'm very eager to be going this year. I think the first day is always the best because of the $1.00 that you have to pay for food, admission, parking space etc.

Hope to see lots of people!

i would like to know if CAR LOAD NIGHT is really worth it.

I went to preview night where everything was a $1. It was so crowded but extremely fun. Robbery tho is the wonders of the would they don't show nothing and is boring.

Opening Night...Opening Nightmare
I have to say, opening night was the worst experience I have ever had at the Fair.
We live close and so we go several times when it is in town every year.
Normally I pre buy the tickets online but this year I didn't so I decided to take advantage of the dollar night specials on opening night.
Well, I realized it would be busy, but that wasn't the worst of it.The way that night was managed was horrible!
After standing on line for almost an hour to buy tickets, you then had to squeeze you way back through the crowd to get to the entrance gate. With 2 children in tow, this was no small feat. They should have set that area up better.
Then when we got in it was another 40 minutes in line just to get the ride tickets...now why couldn't they sell those at the gate instead of making everyone wait in 2 lines on a night that they knew would be crazy busy?
To make it worse, 1/2 of the rides were closed leaving MAJOR lines at the ones that were open.Great start!
After waiting...AGAIN...in a line for almost an hour and still not being close to actally getting on the ride, I told the kids that we could just play some games and come back another night to use our ride tickets.
Here, is another bone of contention. If you are going to allow game vendors to set up and a fair as large scale as this one, would you night require that their stands be in working order at least to some degree?
We went to at least 7 games and EVERY one of them had issues.People were complaing that their water guns did not work right at several, many guns were just marked out of order, scores were not working properly on displays at wack a mole and so on.
We finally just left and I don't think we'll go back again.
This used to be a really nice fair but it has become a very shotty operation.I would really think twice about dropping my hard earned dollars there again.

We've been going every year for God knows how long. Last year was probably the worst one to date and instead of going 4 or 5 times we only went the one time.

I hope this year is better then last, it doesn't appear to look as large as it did about 3 years back, (gets smaller every year) and the construction is NO excuse,so don't even go there. But if it sucks again this time around we just won't go back and save our money. Hell, we mostly just go for the food anyways and that's ALWAYS cheaper out of the fair. I mean $6.00 for a 1/2 dozen zeppoles? I can buy a dozen for $3.50 at Pizza Town in Lodi!

I love the fair. Too bad they don't mention The World of Wonders Sideshow on the website!

I was at the fair today and tonight and enjoyed it a lot. The Nock Thrill Show is a don't miss (we stayed for the 9pm as the 6 was rained out). The only problems I really could see was the ride operators really were not overall very friendly and towards the end of the evening the crowd became very non-child friendly.

I want to know if they'll be selling bunnies again.
I think I went two years ago, and I saw them selling bunnies. D: I really wanted one, but my damn mom... ANYWAYS. That's whut I want to know. :]

I thought that the free shows are supposed to be family friendle. I took my family there on the 28th. We saw a show at 8:00 called amir amora ( I think that was the name anyways). It was supposed to be belly dancing, and hip hop. You know professional dancers. It looked more like pole dancing to me! I found it very offensive! I can not believe some of things that they did onstage! Thank you State Fair Meadowlands for basically giving my son a free strip tease!!!! I would never go back again and throw my money away there again. I hope everyone with a family is careful of this free "show".

The is the WORST BLOG I have ever seen. If the Fair is managed as poorly as this blog you can expect exactly what others mentioned - waiting in line for hours - pick pockets all over the place - extra charges above "pay one price" tickets ... $140 for 2 adults and 2 children for entrance on a Saturday, pay one price tickets, parking... I wonder how that stacks up against 6 Flags Great Adventure in NJ.

If you are disappointed in State Fair, try the New Jersey State Fair in Sussex County...Aug. 1-10th, lots of animals and family friendly stuff, been there for over 60 years. I take the kids because the Meadowlands is just too conjested and too carnival. Check out their website.

I go to the fair EVERY summer, and have as far back as I can remember. I've already popped in their once this year for dinner & a couple of shows, and will be back on the closing date. The tigers are definitely a show NOT to miss. I expect expensive fair foods and rides, and don't have a problem with it. For the person who complained about the bellydancing... have you ever seen a bellydancing show before? The movements and clothing are TRADITIONALLY sexy, but nothing untoward or illegal is exposed. Bellydancing is what it is; they also have it every year at the NY Renaissance Faire. If you don't want your children exposed to it, be sure to skip the shows there too come August.

FAIR IS TERRIBLE... SAVE YOUR MONEY. GO TO THE SHORE MUCH BETTER

Anonymous said...

I would like to know why they have an elephant? I've never been to the fair, but how can they take care of an elephant on fair grounds? It must stink to high heaven around that place!!!

HUGE waste of time. ALL the games were $5.00, they jacked the prices on all the food by over 33%, I have never been more disappointed in the NJ Fair in my life and I've been going for ages. This will be the last time I ever go and I live less then 10 minutes away.

I may try the State Fair in Sussex. I went a couple years ago and wasn't all that impressed with that fair either. Betterfood but more of a Green Acres vibe then I'm used to.

It just might be time to try the Jersey shore again or maybe Coney Island.

I'm glad I passed this one this year. I'll be going back to the Sussex fair again as it nver disappoints!

we love the state fair. Our family come here every year. But one thing bothers us very much; that is there is no "NO SMOKING" ban on the fair ground. Smokers smoke anywhere anytime and they show absolutly no concern of others especially around children.

Every year, unlimited ride & admissionon on the "Patrons appreciation day" cost $20.00. this year it increased to $25.00.
with bad economy and high gas price, I am skipping this year.

"It's too late to pray." Sign of Woodbridge Church Kansas. And it may be true. Examine pimps who prostitute 10 year old girls in the ghetto.
Of course, if you want even a shred of a chance to save yourself, on that rare occassion the Buffalo Bills did experience the Fourth Reich and realized a comeback.
I am failing. But it is because of the god's defense tactics. Fuck absolute power. I hate losing.

Budget problems. Cut the military. Bring them home and end the wars. Let these countries experience self-determination and decide their own future. Didn't we learn this lesson in Vietnam???
Unfortunnately, the gods use the United States as one of their tools, using the spread of democracy to level the playing field and prepare the planet for a global event.

So many people don't care about global warming. They don't care about the Federal deficit/debt (outside of partisanship) and they don't care earning $400k for an $80,000/year job will eventually bankrupt the country. They have awarded themselves $400k pay and retirement packages, loading up their friends on the payroll during the boom 90s through the real estate bust while all services which the program were intended to fund now get cut to pay for it.
These people are often common public university labor. Not Ivy League, not private university.
This labor isn't good enough to command the salaries they are earning. And they understood this when they applied to the public university they settled on.
You can't expect a top-tier salary with a second-rate education.
In addition, public employment has earned the label of being "recession-proof" jobs, a benefit which was taken into consideration with lower pay packages as compared to corporate.
They think they are going sometime during/at the end of this life, and disregard the poor souls who are left behind.
These are the people who will be here in the United States when bankruptcy is declared and society deteriorates into chaos. And they will deserve the anarchy which ensues.

Continuing the push for privatization, reinforced and supported recently with enormous public sector salaries and retirement packages.
Once achieved the gods will utilize the corruptive predisposition of the private sector economy, as seen with the sub-prime/bailout fiasco, to initiate economic catastrophy and initiate the bankruptcy proceedings of the United States.
Whether the cure for cancer/diseases or the permanant resolution of economic misery, before the gods remove these motivations to pray we will experience an inordinate deluge of each element, with economic misery being perhaps the dissallusion of the united States with bankruptcy.

The gods used the Italians to ruin life in the 20th century.
The gods used the Italians to ruin life in A.D. with The Church.
The Church controlled Western Civilization. As the largest land owner in Europe they controlled the monarchies. They were responsbile for slavery, revenge for African invasion and rape of Italy. They created religious discontent, ultimately leading to the disfavored dumping ground known as the United States.

Color photographs shortly after the 4.16.06 San Francsico Earthquake found.
They deserved it. Just like New Orleans deserved it.
Sadly San Francisco was used to set up the Italian dominance, eliminating the diverse business/banking interests and replacing it with Gianinni's Bank of Italy. Of course the fires were instrumental in ensuring complete rebuilding was necessary.
Imagine how the gods sold the Italians this, and compare it to how they sold them on preparation for WorldWarII.

I hate the gods.
